Interview by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is The Meg 2: The Trench, the big, dumb shark movie and it’s exactly as advertised. Jason Statham returns to fight the megalodons in more silly ways. Complete with not-so-good CGI -almost AI looking effects most of the time and corny dialogue, this one borders on Sharknado territory more than it does Jaws, but as ridiculous as it is, it’s still kind of fun. Well, the first half drags a bit and isn’t anything special, but for no good reason, the true action and laughs come in the second half when the sharks start eating people, new creatures are introduced, and the craziest and silliest things happen. No one thought that this would be an award winner, but it could have been a little tighter and a little more one way or the other being serious or silly. It sits in the middle and so does the feeling about it. As the character DJ himself says, “Man, this is some dumb a** s*** mark my words” and he’s right. But if you want some ridiculous mindless fun on the big screen, this one is for you. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
