Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. On streaming now is Soul Mates, a twisted thriller that finds a man and a woman thrust awake in a bed that’s not either of theirs and they’re chained to each other – and they hadn’t met yet. Through a series of gruesome Saw-like tests but with a gameshow-style host on a screen, they get to know each other and find it to be a bizarre dating challenge. Wherever it seems like it’s going that’s cliche, it takes a hard turn and somehow manages to squeeze in humor and romance in between the horror, which is pretty unique. Not all is as it seems and that’s in part to Charlie Weber and Annie Ilonzeh’s unexpected chemistry and the twists and turns all the way to the end.Throw in a hammy Neal McDonough and you’ve got something even more interesting. Slickly directed by Mark Gantt, this fun little hybrid genre flick is an engaging late night watch if you’re ready for a wild ride. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
