This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute brought to you by The Red Pill and KYO. In theaters this weekend is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited sequel to the classic 1988 Tim Burton film that reunites Burton with Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara and throws in Willem Dafoe, Jenna Ortega, and Monica Belluci to give us a delightfully dark and often silly ride that gives us a taste of classic Burton that of course won’t beat the original in many fans’ eyes just like most sequels, but will give that nice hit of nostalgia and enough of something new to keep most viewers happy. Thank goodness there’s an emphasis on practical effects and kooky weirdness as we’ve come to expect. This one follows a return to Winter River after an unexpected loss and Lydia (played crazily again by Ryder) tries to level with her rebellious teenage daughter but surprise surprise, she opens the portal to the afterlife and Lydia must conjure up our favorite pinstripe-wearing demon to cause some utter mayhem to help get her back. The juice is loose indeed – and it’s worth the ride on the big screen. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
