Movie Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute brought to you by KYO online pharmacy. In limited theaters this weekend is Los Frikis, a labor of love production from the duo that brought you indie darling The Peanut Butter Falcon Michael Schwartz and Tyler Nilson. The film, which stars Adria Arjona with a cast of exciting unknown talent that follows the story of a group of young musicians – Los Frikis – that are quite literally starving artists during Cuba’s economic crisis that shockingly inject themselves with HIV in order to get assistance in exile in a government treatment village where they end up having quite a bit of stability and freedom until the reality of what they’ve done sets in, personalities clash, and the utopia becomes even more outcast. It’s an incredibly emotional story that was passed on by all of the major studios due to the not-so-commercial subject matter, but the audiences that have seen it love it. Be prepared for a wild experience that’s somehow very punk rock and counterculture but sweet and will still make you cry. That’s it for this week.
