Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. On Netflix this week is Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the sequel fans have been waiting 30 years for – and thankfully it delivers. That said, it may deliver more for those seeking that nostalgia factor and they’ll get it with Foley, Rosewood, and Taggert back together along with Serge and Jeffrey and of course, Foley has returned to Beverly Hills and all hell breaks loose. This time, Foley has come to help his estranged daughter and, of course, gets arrested almost immediately and stirs the pot right away to the ire of the new faces played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Bacon. Opening with the Glenn Frey classic “The Heat Is On” and the Axel F theme, all of the classic marks are there: car chases, impersonations, quick one-liners, and utter chaos. Original fans should be pleased but will new audiences think it’s fast-paced or slick enough for modern tastes? Time will tell on that one but thankfully Netflix has given us the subscription value of the month because this could have easily been in every theater – and it may have been a better watch there – again for nostalgia but we’ll take what we can get. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
