Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is Night Swim, the first big release of 2024 – and it’s a scary one. Well, sort of. Just like with most January releases – especially when it comes to horror films, it’s never the best of the year but proves to be a fairly entertaining trip back to the big screen that serves as a palate cleanser from all of the holiday and awards season watching and gets us back in the season for something new. And now, of course, we have a new – or renewed fear – swimming pools. Here, a former baseball player, played by Wyatt Russell, son of Kurt Russell, moves in with his family to a new home to recover from a potentially career-ending issue and the big draw is the pool for the family but – you guessed it…something bad happened there and now it’s haunted or cursed. But interestingly enough, it also has an addictive healing power that keeps drawing him back in despite the trouble it’s caused with the family and its guests. It’s fairly by the numbers Blumhouse fare but also pretty fun and seems to be a crowd pleaser. It won’t make your best of list this year but it’s good for a fun jolt at the movies, which is exactly what we expected here. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
