Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute brought to you by KYO online pharmacy. In theaters now is Captain America: Brave New World, the latest Marvel movie that sees the tail end of a certain era of Marvel and peeks at the beginning of a new one. This time, Captain America is played by Anthony Mackie and follows the Sam Wilson character, who becomes Captain America, which is explored in the Disney+ show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, to which this heavily relies on that you’ve seen – and I haven’t along with presumably millions of other moviegoers so there may be some gaps since Sam’s 5 years on the big screen. Also, here Harrison Ford steps in for the late William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross. The story is as basic as it gets on the surface with Captain America having to stop a global threat but what’s interesting here is the political implications of an angry red president causing chaos in the White House having to be stopped by a obviously different superhero than we’re used to seeing in blue that’s simply battling an internal crisis meaning no other superheroes or villains, aliens, etc, so Cap has to fight the government to right the wrongs and fight for a return to normalcy. It’s an interesting concept at an interesting time in the country and although, yes, it is meant to be for entertainment and it is pretty entertaining – and also nice to see Mackie and Ford with roles they seem to enjoy – it’s also dangerously close in quality to being a direct to streaming viewing rather than a big family IMAX outing. It’s certainly no big summer release and wasn’t screened for fans so Disney knows what they have – a placeholder until the Avengers can assemble again. That’s it for this week.
