Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute brought to you by The Red Pill and KYO online pharmacy. In theaters for a limited run this weekend that includes DFW is Day of the Fight, the directorial debut of Jack Huston, the actor that’s both Hollywood royalty and actual royalty that put his money where his mouth is and put up a fight to get this beautiful black and white film on the big screen. While Huston sits out in front of the camera this time, he proves to have the feel of the greats before him and leads the always-great but never quite recognized as much Michael Pitt, who gives a knockout performance alongside a fine cast that includes Joe Pesci, Ron Perlman, John Magaro, and Steve Buscemi that follows a boxer, Irish Mike Flannigan, on the big day of his first fight out of prison. It’s the kind of movie that you just don’t see enough anymore that serves as an homage to the great fight films before it but also has a fresh take that’s raw yet very touching. It’s definitely worth the trip to the cinema and important to support this kind of underdog that turned out to be the main event. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
