Review By Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters now is Deadpool and Wolverine – the big superhero team-up movie that’s been very eagerly anticipated – and – it is what it is, exactly how you think it will be. They’ve got the shtick down and while it does backflips on fan service – it may not be enough for those that aren’t superfans or super in-the-know about the characters. There are so many in-jokes, winks and nods, and insider talk that it really becomes a little too much. It’s kind of surprising, really, how much of a tribute to itself it is and not really much else. Yes, there are the neverending Ryan Reynolds smartalec one-liners galore, a very grumpy Wolverine courtesy of Hugh Jackman, tons of violence and questionable humor and language, and of course a bunch of cameos but is it the best we’ve seen Deadpool? No. Is it the best we’ve seen Wolverine? Absolutely not. It’s shockingly slow in places and takes a while to get going – Avengers this is not – and movie of the summer it is not but is it fun? Sure, just not as amazing as fanboys might have you think. You know exactly what you’re going to get here and that’s something over-the-top, not very serious, and all about the fans and Ryan Reynolds/Hugh Jackman friendship. Nothing more, nothing less. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
