Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul., a satire of organized religion in glitzy Southern Baptist churches. Sterling K Brown and Regina Hall are fantastic as the pastor and first lady that are unlikable characters that somehow come off as charming in a way. They’re eyeroll-inducing stereotypical corrupt, greedy, self-centered church leaders that are bad PR for religion and God Himself, but are somehow popular in their charismatic false devotion that some people – and maybe they see- as sincere and worthy of praise. Unfortunately, the film is missing a spirit at the center of it and comes off as hollow, although somewhat entertaining. It’s a missed opportunity to truly make a statement and hit people with any kind of good word, leaving you wondering who this movie is actually for. The filmmakers here are just preaching to the choir. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK and AMFM Magazine.
