Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the latest in the rebooted series, which sees Maze Runner director Wes Ball taking the helm for the big-budget summer movie season kickoff and while it does a decent job, it doesn’t match the excitement of Apes past. This one relies almost entirely on the apes and effects, with Freya Allen and William H. Macy taking the main human parts. This post-Caesar story finds a young ape that goes on a personal journey that affects the human-ape future and here the humans and apes are extremely disconnected and humans seem like a distant strange memory and sometimes in the film there is a disconnect when most of the movie is effects and while the effects are great, it loses a little human touch. It also takes a little too long to get there, too. Strong ending, but it drags its knuckles a little too long along the way. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
