Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is Minions: The Rise of Gru, the retro origin story of our beloved keeper of the Minions, voiced again by Steve Carell, who finds his younger self embracing the dark side by trying to join his favorite group of supervillains and getting rejected but after stealing from them and befriending a former member, he finds his groove, with the help of the somewhat clueless group of those lovable little yellow gibberish speakers. It’s wildly colorful, silly, fun, fast, has a great voice cast, cool soundtrack, and a perfect escape to a cool dark place in the heat of the summer for families. Some may argue that it’s not the best of the series or the shtick is getting old, but it sure felt good to be back in the theater drinking a banana flavored Icee and reveling in the joy of all that is a silly cartoon with a bunch of happy kids and realizing what it means to be able to have a room full of laughing children again. Extra points for that indeed. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK and AMFM Magazine.
