Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is Missing, the latest from the makers of Searching, a fast-paced technology-driven thriller that’s probably scarier than any horror movie- because it makes you realize just how vulnerable we are even with all of the technology available to us – and how many bad things could happen to us that we’re not currently thinking about. In this film, Storm Reid from Euphoria plays June, a normal teenager annoyed by her mom’s lack of technical ability and her new boyfriend that’s much more savvy but still not dad, who has sadly passed. But then her mom, played by Nia Long, and the boyfriend go missing in Mexico and June tries her best given her hacking and best uses of technology to try and find them by any means possible. Like Searching, it’s funny, frightening, gripping, and will give you tinges of paranoia. It is quite original and fun, though, keeping you guessing until the end. Although most things are done on a screen and it seems like it could be seen at home, it’s more fun to see with an audience and watch them squirm and hear the commentary. That’s it for this week.
