LAUNCHES ON NETFLIX DECEMBER 7TH
If you do not expect a re-do of the beloved Disney’s comedy adventure version of Jungle Book, then you will probably like this lush yet somber take on Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. This is a more solemn tale, dark and gritty, with danger lurking everywhere.
Andy Serkis directs this version, which holds more true to the original intent of the Jungle Book by Kipling, which emphasized the verses of The Law of the Jungle. The Law of the Jungle lay down rules for the safety of individuals, families and communities.
Mowgli, a human baby that was rescued by the panther Bagheera after the tiger Shere Khan kills his parents, is raised as a wolf cub. Along the way he learns the very specific Law of The Jungle, which the tiger Shere Khan is breaking in more than one way.
The animals are voiced by Christian Bale as Bagheera, Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan, Cate Blanchett as Kaa, and Andy Serkis as Baloo.
Andy Serkis deftly keeps the jungle wild in MOWGLI, and his animal characters embody a deeper, more serious intent.
