Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute brought to you by KYO online pharmacy and The Red Pill. In theaters now is Red One, the big budget star-studded Christmas movie that sees poor Santa Claus get kidnapped and his top elf have to save him, except Santa is a buff JK Simmons and the elf is The Rock. Throw in the best bounty hunter played by Captain America, Chris Evans, and you have a nontraditional holiday movie that has the right spirit but if it sounds a little off to you, your instincts are good. It’s part Christmas movie, part action flick, part buddy comedy, and almost part horror movie (thanks to a really horrifying Krampus) and while the effects are good, some of the CG is shockingly bad and the crassness and all-over-the-place feel of it makes you wonder who this is for. It tries to service everyone a little bit and ends up not really being enough for many it seems – kind of like the Chinese buffet that serves burgers and fries and chicken fingers – it would be fine with all of the extra – just focus on making the good a little better. It won’t go down as a Christmas classic but may be worth a light family watch at home during the holidays. It’s not the gift you were hoping for but it’s also not a lump of coal. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
