Interview by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters now is Scream VI, another sequel in the super self-aware franchise that finds itself rebooting again with just enough familiarity and predictable retreads mixed with fresh jolts of horror in what is an often seen-it-all-before genre. Now just a year after the last film/reboot, here we see Courtney Cox as the sole returning original cast member (minus the return of an illusion of Skeet Ulrich again) and the focus here is on the new hot trending cast of Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jack Champion, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Liana Liberato, and Samara Weaving – but we do get a surprise here with the return of Hayden Panettiere. Now Ghostface is stronger and meaner than ever, stalking the cast in New York City. Even though the deaths sometimes seem grislier and meaner, now there seems to be more laughs as well, which is a tough balance to hold. While it’s a decent entry into the series, it doesn’t seem at its freshest and may need a complete overhaul in a few years to not seem so predictable, which has always been its greatest strength. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
