Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute brought to you by KYO online pharmacy and The Red Pill. In theaters this weekend is Smile 2, the sequel to the viral 2022 movie where people with a creepy smile started showing up at baseball games and other places staring people down. It was a bit from the film where someone possessed by this entity would make themselves known to someone else affected with the smile that were close to death. The debut film by Parker Finn was genuinely scary in places and pretty original so it was a hit. So here comes the sequel and you think you know what you’re getting into, right? Wrong. Finn returns with a new star, Naomi Scott, who’s quite incredible as a pop star that got into drugs and alcohol and had a terrible accident that killed her boyfriend and she comes back clean, sober, and equipped to carry on in her comeback but then she witnesses someone with the smile kill themselves and then it’s on her and it’ll stay with her until she goes – except she’s a fighter and survivor – and has a lot of resources. Of course this messes up her big comeback and everyone thinks she’s crazy and under the influence again. Like many great genre movies, there’s a lot being said here and under the surface of the gore and the truly frightening jump scares, we get a horror movie like no other that’s unique but not so out there that mainstream audiences won’t get it. This is a crowd-pleaser and a hit – and smart enough to make it to where you don’t necessarily have to see the first one to join in on the spooky season fun. That’s it for this week.
