Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters now is Sound of Freedom, the new film from Alejandro Monteverde that has been surrounded by controversy. It follows the brave path of real life hero Tim Ballard, who quit his job with the government to rescue children from trafficking. Of course this is going to be a tough watch no matter what, but it’s certainly effective and eye-opening. Star Jim Caviezel, who of course is known to many for playing Jesus in the also controversial film The Passion of the Christ, continues to show what he’s made of as an actor and a human that cares deeply in a role that’s challenging, but one that’s perfect for him. He’s a family man of faith that has to leave his family behind to try to fit in and befriend the people he detests the most. As with Monteverde’s other films, Bella and Little Boy, it’s an emotional rollercoaster that will likely end in tears for many, but also will hopefully inspire others to help in what seems to be a cause no one can help enough with. Of course falling under the faith-based category, it has its audience but also many detractors despite there being a message for everyone. By the time the credits roll and the facts and figures of this terrible epidemic are given, it’s hard not to feel something and that is great use of art. That’s it for this week.
