This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is one of the most creative and standout comic book films ever, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Although it is a continuation of the Miles Morales Spider-Man tale and film from 2018, this one stands out on its own with new directors, more writers, and a wealth of talent in the voice and animation department. The real magic here, though, is the absolute immersion that the viewer goes through to quite literally see a comic come to life with the design, lettering, certain words, and so many beloved characters flying across the screen paired with the most beautiful coloring and a standout score by Daniel Pemberton. Quite honestly, you’ve probably never seen or experienced anything quite like it. There really is a Spider-Man (or woman) for anyone as there are countless variations in the multiverse with so many parallel storylines going on and endless possibilities ahead. But as a Part 1 and already at 2 hours and 20 minutes, it is a lot to take in and does kind of leave you hanging, but certainly wanting more. If this is the future of animation and already an early contender for a Best Picture nod, the best is certainly yet to come, true believers. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
