Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute brought to you by The Red Pill and KYO. In theaters this weekend is The Killer’s Game, a kill ’em all action flick starring Dave Bautista that’s like a mix of John Wick and Kill Bill – but with some comedy and romance thrown in. The crazy stunts, wild violence, and creative ways to die aren’t the shocker here – it’s that the film revolves around a romance between Bautista and Sofia Boutella that’s actually really sweet and gives the film a little something different than expected. Of course the audience comes to see Bautista fight his way through just about anything in this story of a hitman who places a hit on himself when he finds out he’s dying and tries to reverse the hit when he finds out he’s not after all and it’s too late – he’s a wanted man. What the previews don’t tell you is the reason he wants a clean hit and then to live – is all for the love of a girl. The genre mix is fun and it’s nice to see Bautista get to flex his muscles in other ways and show a little range. Director J.J. Perry is one of the best stuntmen out there and he makes sure the audience gets what they paid for – some of the best fight sequences you’ll see this year. It won’t be for critics but this one’s a crowd pleaser. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
