This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters now is Violent Night, the killer Santa flick where old Saint Nick is a rough and tumble action hero. Imagine Die Hard meets John Wick meets Home Alone. It’s a lot of fun and quite over the top and bloody, but in a strange way, a little endearing at times, too. David Harbour from Stranger Things is our Kris Kringle, a not-so-jolly round man that enjoys drinking just as much as the good treats left by kids. But while Santa is out making his rounds (and yes, he’s Santa and he’s real in this story), he runs across a home invasion heist with unlikable people on both sides and, of course, he has to punish the naughty. The laughs come fast and furious, especially the exchanges with head bad guy John Leguizamo and the fight scenes are quite brutal. Is it a traditional Christmas movie? No. Do we maybe have a new holiday classic? Possibly. But it is fun for now and quite the distraction we needed right about now. It could have been a lump of coal but it turned out to be a small present. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK and AMFM Magazine.
